Sex positions

Which sex positions require less effort? Ideas to explore without rushing

Support on the mattress, side‑lying, and at the edge. If anyone is planking, this is not the post.

Short answer

Less effort means support, not carrying weight, side‑lying, without straining. If anyone is planking or balancing, that arrangement does not belong here. Less effort is not for lasting longer.

Breaks are part of the encounter, not an interruption.

Spooning

On your sides, same direction. The mattress takes both bodies. Hips come close; no one holds themselves up on their arms.

The person behind leans back and stops. A pillow between the knees if needed. If you have to lift your head or an arm to avoid falling, it is not spooning.

Missionary with support

The receiver, on their back. The person on top rests on elbows or on the mattress, not on locked‑out palms. The chest can rest. The legs of the person on the bottom rest on the bed, not in the air.

The person underneath turns or moves a hip aside and stops. If arms shake, elbows to the mattress or go onto your side.

Butterfly, on the bed

The person on their back uses a firm pillow under the hips. The other person is close in front, supported by the mattress, kneeling or sitting back on their heels. Feet on the mattress. No one holds legs in the air.

The person on their back closes their legs and stops. If someone has to hold thighs up or plank to reach, out.

Oral or hands, both lying down

Both on the bed, on your sides, or one on their back and the other beside them. Mouth or hand reaches without anyone lifting their torso. The mattress takes the weight.

The giver tilts their head back and stops. This is not a plan B for when you run out of breath: it is the arrangement. If you have to sit up to reach, change.

Oral at the edge, giver kneeling

The receiver sits or reclines at the edge, feet on the floor if it is a seat. The giver kneels in front, cushion under the knees. The floor takes the weight.

The person at the edge stands up and stops. If knees hurt, more cushion or stop.

Sideways 69

Both on your sides, each head towards the other’s pelvis. No four‑point holds. The mattress takes the weight. It does not have to be mutual.

Either person rolls away and stops. Jaws get tired: stop or change sides. If someone gets on all fours to reach, it is no longer this arrangement.

Butterfly at the edge

The person on their back brings their pelvis to the edge, a cushion under the hips if needed. The person in front kneels on the floor, between the legs. The kneeler’s feet, on the floor. No one holds legs in the air.

The person at the edge closes their legs or sits up and stops. If the person in front has to lean in a plank, the edge is too high: lower it or change.

Breaks

Stopping for water, moving a pillow, or not moving are not failures. Effort is not measured by how long an arrangement lasts. You can return, change, or end.

Barriers and when to stop

A position does not remove the possibility of pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A new condom for each act of vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Have barriers to hand: getting up to find them is more effort than this post suggests.

If something hurts, tingles, arms shake, or breathing is hard, stop.
