Sex positions

Which sex positions can make clitoral stimulation easier during penetration?

How stimulation can reach the clitoris during penetration: pelvic friction, a hand, a pillow, or a change of angle.

Short answer

The glans of the clitoris is outside the vagina, at the top of the vulva. Penetration, by itself, often does not touch it. Some positions bring the pelvises closer, leave room for a hand or a toy, or change the angle so there is friction on that area while something is inside.

Not everyone wants direct contact on the glans. Through the hood, gentler, or “not there” also count. No position guarantees pleasure or orgasm. If the contact is not wanted, hurts, or stops being interesting, stop.

What needs to reach the clitoris

Part of the clitoris extends inside the body, but the contact many people seek during penetration is external: pressure or friction on the glans and the surrounding area. That can come from the other person’s pelvis, from a hand, from a toy, or from a pillow that changes hip height. Others prefer the hood, less pressure, or not touching the glans. That is also clitoral stimulation.

If the clitoris does not receive friction or a hand while there is penetration, that arrangement does not belong here.

Missionary shifted toward the shoulders (CAT)

The receiver is on their back. The penetrating person, in missionary, moves up toward the receiver’s shoulders: the penis or toy goes in less and the pelvis sits higher, so it rubs the clitoris. The movement is a short rock, not a long in‑out thrust.

This is not any face‑to‑face. If the hips are far apart or the movement is deep, the clitoris does not come into contact. Some people notice more stimulation this way. The evidence on simultaneous orgasm is mixed; it is not a trick. More friction calls for lubricant.

Leaning cowgirl (reverse CAT)

The receiver straddles and leans towards the chest. The penis or toy stays more shallow and the clitoris can rub on the pubis of the person underneath, again with a short rocking movement.

The person on top controls the angle. A hand fits between you. If they straighten up and move up and down, the clitoris usually loses contact: lean again or stop.

Missionary with room for a hand

The receiver, on their back, opens their knees slightly or rests them outward. The penetrating person supports themselves on their forearms, not lying full‑weight. There is room for a hand (either person’s) to stimulate the clitoris while there is penetration.

If there is no room, there is no clitoral stimulation in this variant. Shorten the thrust so the hand is not pushed out.

Pillow under the pelvis

The receiver lies on their back with a firm pillow under the sacrum or pelvis, not blindly under the lower back. The hips rise. The pillow brings the pubis closer; it does not replace friction or a hand. If after placing it the clitoris still has no friction or hand, this arrangement does not belong, as with the others.

A soft pillow that sinks will not do. If the back or neck hurts, remove it. One placement only: the pillow.

Spooning with a hand or a toy

On your sides, with the person with the penis or toy behind. Penetration from behind rarely rubs the clitoris on its own. The receiver (or the person behind, if they can reach) uses a hand or a small toy on the clitoris at the same time.

Without that hand or toy, this position does not match the title. The penetration movement is short, so as not to dislodge the stimulation.

Side scissor

Both on your sides, almost perpendicular: one leg of the receiver opens over the other person’s hip. The penis or toy enters and the pubis can rest against the clitoris. A hand reaches easily.

If the scissor opens so wide that there is only in‑out and the pelvises do not touch, the clitoris is left out. Close the angle a little or add the hand.

Doggy style with chest supported and a hand

The receiver rests on their chest and forearms, not upright. The penetrating person is behind. One hand (the receiver’s, or the person behind if balance allows) goes to the clitoris.

On high hands‑and‑knees, hands are usually occupied and the clitoris does not get pelvic friction. Lowering the chest frees a hand. Without that hand, this position does not belong here.

Lubricant, barriers, and when to stop

Clitoral friction and penetration together can dry you out. Use a lubricant compatible with a condom if you use one. A position does not remove the possibility of pregnancy or the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) when an activity involves them. Use a new condom for each act of vaginal, anal, or oral sex.

Stopping to put on a barrier, move a hand, or leave penetration is part of sex.
